The Opportunity
We are looking for a motivated and skilled Cloud Engineer to join our growing team of cloud specialists. In this role, you will be instrumental in the design, implementation, and maintenance of cutting-edge cloud infrastructure on AWS. You’ll work across various customer platforms, ensuring optimal performance, security, and reliability, while continuously striving for automation and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
As a Cloud Engineer at 56Bit, you will participate in two core areas: Support & Maintenance and Projects, alongside contributing to our Innovation, Customer Service, and Autonomy principles.
Support & Maintenance
- Apply best practices and preventive maintenance techniques to ensure the health and stability of customer platforms.
- Participate in a 24×7 on-call support rotation to ensure continuous service availability.
- Implement changes and updates to customer infrastructure, adhering to change management protocols.
- Update documentation diligently following any changes, severity incidents, or system updates.
- Contribute to the creation, maintenance, and upkeep of run books.
Projects
- Build and deploy best-practice infrastructure platforms in AWS, strictly following the Well-Architected Framework and other industry standards.
- Develop all infrastructure-as-code (IaC) using Terraform.
- Conduct several testing paradigms to ensure solution robustness and reliability.
- Participate in roll-out and go-live phases of new projects.
Innovation
- Proactively identify and propose solutions to solve real-life technical challenges.
- Apply automation to streamline operations and enhance efficiency.
- Explore and introduce AI-driven improvements to internal processes and automations.
- Identify and close technical gaps within existing systems or processes.
- Conduct Proofs-of-Concept (POCs) for internal tooling and new technologies.
Customer Service
- Contribute to increasing customer retention by consistently improving service delivery.
- Adhere strictly to service delivery guardrails and guidelines.
- Maintain a strong customer-focused approach in all interactions and deliveries.
Autonomy
- Demonstrate the ability to work independently and manage your workload effectively.
- Research thoroughly and propose solutions rather than solely identifying problems.
- Ensure your work aligns with best-practice methodologies.
- Work effectively with minimal peer guidance.
- Actively seek validation and feedback from senior cloud engineers to ensure high-quality outputs.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Cloud Architecture: Proven experience designing, building, and maintaining scalable AWS cloud environments.
- Infrastructure & Containerization: Proficiency in Terraform, Kubernetes, and Docker for seamless deployment and infrastructure management.
- Scripting & Automation: Strong scripting capabilities (e.g., Python, Bash) with a proven ability to automate routine infrastructure operations and leverage AI automation tools to streamline workflows and ticket management.
- CI/CD & Delivery: Hands-on experience building, managing, and optimising CI/CD pipelines, including integrating automated security and code quality scanning.
- Observability & Reliability: Strong understanding of observability, monitoring, and alerting practices to ensure high availability, fast incident response, and optimal performance across cloud systems.
- DevOps Culture: Strong understanding of core DevOps and SRE principles, with a proactive attitude and excellent problem-solving skills.
- Team Dynamics: Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
- Communication: Strong communication and documentation skills for writing clear technical specs, runbooks, and post-incident reviews.
Must Have
- Any AWS Associate certification, preferably AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate certification.
